Howdy Chris!

Good looking plants and hoe! HOw many plants do you have this year? I grew about 100 and it's keeping me plenty busy. Let us know how the 90 min Fl Sumatra experiment works out.

ne3go, We should have better tobacco this grow.
Mine got about 80% city water last year, and the fertilizer I had last year I think was crap, I have the bag around here somewhere I'm going to look for to see what was in it.

Thanks Fishermam, Time will tell, I learned a lot last year so I hope this year is even better.

Thanks AmaxB, I'm going out with my hoe later today.

Paul, How are you? Been wondering about the MCY and what your opinion was.
Those were from the plants that were started from the seeds that came from Alberta.
Yes I did get some African Red in the ground, I planted them last week thank you very much for everything.
WOW, 1924 plants in the ground, Man I bet there's no grass growing under your feet right now.
Damn birds took out a few of mine when I first put them in the ground.
And I whacked a couple zipping around with the hoe when they where first planted.
I've seen it looks like you've been having some warm weather up your way, even Alaska has been warm this year.
Should kick start your grow a little.
SO! Your saying I got a cheep hoe? sometimes those cheep hoes aren't to bad to drag through the dirt a little.:D

Knucks, How much are you willing to pay for a good Amish hoe? and what beer do serve with a Amish hoe?

Hey ChuckP thanks.
I'm down to around 104 plants right now, and i'm out of starts so I hope I don't lose any more.

Bob and Jitterbug, that's the hoe I saw on line, It is a nice one.

Jitterbug, Did you see the lady on the news that honey bees swarmed her house, so she called a bee keeper out and he sucked them all out and got 10 pounds of bees.
He said it was the biggest swarm he had ever seen, and that when he opened the door to the house, they blocked out the light.
He kept all of them, and has them set up in hives.

These are some Florida Sumatra, The picture on the left gets 90 minutes of sun, and the picture on the right get all day sun.
The shade grown Sumatra has mushrooms growing with them.
The white seen at about the 2 o'clock and 9 o'clock position of plant.
Don't know if that's a good thing, or a bad thing.

So this year NO CITY WATER AND NO FERTILIZERS. I used a wrong type fertilizer last year, I think it was the problem more than the city water for poor burning tobacco.
Happy Growing Everyone,

I only fertilize my soil two weeks before I plant tobacco in it. No more after. I didn't have any problems with poor burning. I also water tobacco with city water few times when I was out with raining water.

Garden looks great.

Thanks Rainmax, I'm not going to use city water, only if my plants are close to being lost.
I just want to try to get a grow in with no man made junk and see how it turns out.

That wouold make a good hide scraper also! I planted a lot of the Fl. Sumatra last year. It did real well. In fact I smoked my last kilned leaf of it today. I will pull a naturaly 1 year aged leaf tomorrow and give it a try.
Hey Barg, The blade on the one I have is a lot thinner, (cheap) and would scrape a hide no problem.
Can't wait to try some Sumatra.

I have 2 Izmar plants that caught my eye today.
One plant, the leafs are puckered like, and the other plant has kind of like rust spots on some of the leaves.
Could this be the start of Mosaic virus?

The other Izmar looks great.Izmar_0006.jpg

The Aztec started to bloom at a little less than 4 weeks after planting in the ground.

Thanks for any ideas on what might be going on with the Izmar.

Chris,
The photos are too blurry to get a good view of the diseased areas on the affected plant. You can spend a while looking through the tobacco disease photos on the IPM Images site: http://www.ipmimages.org/browse/Areasubs.cfm?area=62

My first impression is that it is viral, so you might check out those images first.

Bob

Thank you Bob for the link.
From everything that I have read and looked at, (And I went through the whole list), it most resembles Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus.

http://www.ipmimages.org/browse/detail.cfm?imgnum=1389036

But not quite as severe as the one shown in the IPM Image.

Thanks again Bob for taking the time to help with my question.

Out of all my plants I have one with TSWV and that link helped me figure it out. Mine is on the end of the row nearest the woods. Time to spray the woods with malathyon!
