I just received another order from WLT, 14 days to Ontario after going to Montreal very nice as usual.
I get popped for tax and duty every time now I guess I am on a hit list somewhere, $25 -$35 Canadian on 5 pounds not a big deal.
Anyway I asked Don if I could get a sample of the Kentucky FC VA 309 to try and they are very generous and sent a sample, thanks so much.
Beautiful thick and leathery leaves perfect case I love the smell, the smoke is there but some kind of spicy slightly fermented smell as well.
I am a find a blend you like and smoke it all the time kind of guy.
I have talked to a few tobacconists in my past years and they said most people find a blend and stick to it.

I am making a 60-70% Latakia blend and after a 6 – 8 week stay in a jars it smells like what I remember Caravan and Samara maybe even Squadron Leader smells, loved all three perfect all day blends for me.
This is my blend right now.
Latakia FIC 65%
FC VA Cad 8%
FC VA Red 8%
FC VA Bright Leaf 8%
Dark AC 3.63%
Kentucky Burley AC 3.63%
Krumovgrad B2 AC 3.63%

I was thinking of adding some of the fire cured and reduce the Latakia for the times when a little more nic is needed.

I was using Bob`s book and his recommendations to buy pipe tobacco for blending but I looked and as far as I can tell there is no mention of Kentucky Fire Cured VA 309 or other fire cured tobacco other than Latakia in the Blend Your Own book. I am old and maybe it’s there.

So I was wondering if this is not a tobacco that is normally used in pipe blends.
Also I was wondering does the fire cured have higher nicotine than the leaf they started with.

Your blending intuition is excellent. Start somewhere. Explore from there.

It's not there. All sorts of wonderful blends are not there. Since publishing the book, I've posted almost 100 more blends in my pure tobacco pipe blends thread. I don't think I've added fire-cured in those either. I believe it's been nearly a decade since I had Kentucky fire-cured on hand, so it just doesn't happen in my blends at the moment.

Thanks for the reply it seemed strange that there was no mention, maybe a re-visit, this stuff smells fantastic.
