Pipe Blend Imagination Challenge

seaMiningTeeth_labelBLANK_3_5_300dpi.jpg

This is for a pipe blend. It needs:
  1. a name
  2. a recipe
The only constraint is that the tobacco ingredients must be available (or have been available) from among the offerings of WLT--or tobacco ingredients that can be created from them, such as Cavendish, plugs, etc. You can post a name or a recipe or both.

On 13 DEC 2019, I will put up a poll in which you can vote on the various proposed blends.

A week later, on 20 DEC 2019, I will close the first poll, then put up a poll for the name to go with the selected blend.

Then, on 27 DEC 2019, I will close the naming poll, and post the final blend and its name, along with the completed blend label.

You can interpret all those teeth any way you like.

The Maw aka The Velvet Hammer

Silky smooth with a sting in its tail. Hurts so good! Perfectly balanced, no tongue bite. Was just going to have a quick test taste but ended up smoking the whole bowl. (Why are my ears ringing?)
All measurements in grams.

Dark Fired 2.5
Dark Air 2.5
Katerini 3.0
Latakia 3.0
Maryland Cavendish 2.0
Va Bright Leaf 6.0

Silver Haired Piranha: Maryland 609 soaked in el Charro blanco tequila, pressed for a week, then dried to smoking case.

That's it.

No pic because I didn't try this and you shouldn't either. Not gonna lie, the label pic of flat grey earth laden digging teeth stymied me. It just doesn't look like anything I would want to smoke. Guess I have no imagination.

This post is not meant to denigrate the competition or other submissions: it is intended to add levity.

I look forward to seeing what others come up with.

Autumn Sun (PM deluxestogie, if you wish to add a name.)
I'm not too creative on the naming side, but I really like the following blend, all measurements are by weight:
85% double bright VA
10% Perique
5% VA cav (4 hrs in the pressure cooker, I used red tips)

Fermented in Oude Geuze dregs, I used Geuze Tilquin. Pressed at low case at ~4 tons for a week. Sliced and tinned, one tin for now, one to try in a few months.

The double bright has a very unique and complex taste to it, to me almost "peanut buttery" for lack of a better comparison. Extremely good stuff in my opinion, makes commercial VA flak taste 1-dimensional.

Got another one, seeing as its a little warmer today I could actually sit outside and enjoy myself. The inspiration for this one was a navy flake I could enjoy all day. So far I love it, smoked cool it has a sweet floral character, but puff it quickly and you get lots of peppery leather notes. I will be making more of this one for sure!

Drowned Sailor, all %'s by weight.

Red VA 35%
Red VA tips 12.5%
MD 609 Cav ( md 609 cased with invert syrup and pressure cooked for 4 hrs, jet black product) 12.5%
Perique 5%
Bright VA 35%

Casing:
5g of invert syrup
500mg lactic acid 88% (brewers grade)
2 drops bergamot peel oil, cold pressed
1 drop patchouli oil, steam distilled
25ml of D H2O

25ml of dark sipping rum.

Heavily cased leaf was allowed to merry in a jar for 3 days (only needed about 1/2 the sauce), then air dried to low case and pressed at ~4 tons for 3 days.

The casing smells very floral and earthy, but by the time the leaf is pressed and cut it smells much more "tobacco" like. I would call this a mild aromatic.

I can imagine a blend. Evening Delight
1. Va lemon 35%
2 Va flue cured 35%
3 Va red 20%
4 latakia 5%
5. Perique 5%

Mist with Brandy or rum and cold press for a month in this case would have to be till the contest closes.

The Kraken:
Tobacco measured by leaf area - (prototype recipe)
50% Kentucky Dark Fire Cured
20% Current WLT Flue Cured Virginia Bright Leaf
10% Burley
10% Turkish Katerini
10% St. James Perique bullseye core
1 oz. Kraken Spiced Rum

Case all leaves for rolling (med/high) with distilled water, except the Perique.
Frog all leaf except Katerini.
Remove chunky stem pieces from Katerini.
Lay out Burley and Bright for a roll using best Dark Fired as the wrapper.
Sprinkle over with Katerini and lay down the Perique at the leading edge to roll in as bullseye core.
Roll very tightly, binding and wrapping with Dark Fire Cured, using considerable finger and palm pressure.
Cut off ends of rolls and set aside.
Place each roll into the bottom of it's own baggie, roll tightly in the bag from bottom to top.
Set aside to rest for a couple of days. Your preference.
Take the ends and pieces approximating proper ratio. Shred to desired smoking consistency.
Allow to air to proper smoking moisture content.
Load a bowl with the fruits of your labor, take a sip from the 1oz prepared Kraken Spiced Rum, light up and enjoy the preview of what is to come. A medium bodied smokey campfire flavor, with that clean complex Katerini pop, all mellowed by the reliable Perique essence. Think Old Dark Fired lite with depth and character.

Maryland 22.5%
Dark air 22.01%
Virginia bright leaf 41.26%
Kentucky fire Cured 6.34%
Turkish 7.39%
Top the green weight of the blend with 10%of topping blend below.
Topping
Brandy(Paul Mason grand amber) 33.25%
Water 49.93%
Anise extract 0.07%
Vanilla extract 0.07%
Hershey chocolate syrup 16.68%

Blend shredded and top and press for 24hrs and rub apart, and dry. I feel some aging will do it good.
