Hi everybody, sorry if this is a well worn subject can't find much about a cause or cure. My seedlings seem to reach a certain size then start to lay down. I'm continually putting more mix around the base to prop them up. I'm thinking weight of new larger leaves are the cause so have reluctantly trimmed them back by cutting half off. The large leaves are about 3" by 2". I don't want this to become a permanent growth defect. Thanks.

Weak seedlings is typically the result of high temperature, low light and a lack of wind.
Wind will make a strong stem.
Low temperature will make the plant grow less but strong.
With strong light the plant will grow strong.

Maybe you can add artificial light?
Maybe you can add a fan?
Lower the temperature is another option but it is probably too difficult and you don't need it if you add a fan and/or lights.
Another option is to pinch the stem or brush it with a toothbrush, it is a bonzai technique.

This is not tobacco specific but for plants in general.

Are you sure its not mechanical/light damage? Lower picture kind of looks like something scraped the leaf. Upper one could be lensing from water drops, have you given them more light resently?

Most likely not, tomatos also release gas. The amount of gas is most likely minimal, I would worry more about the pollution from cars, definitively.

I wouldnt worry about it unless you got really huge amounts of tobacco compared to Air volume etc. If you do tho, small amounts of ammonia makes yo feel quite sick, im sure youll find out if its to much

I currently 125 hanging my lounge, there is a bit of air movement but not much. Will leave some windows open now. Yes I do feel a bit unwell.

I have a couple of Virginia Maryland plants that are looking mature and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to hang them as a whole plant to cure them. I've done this with my Izmir Ozbas which seems to work well as they didn't cure well as individual leaves. I've never grown these strains before.

Virginia flue-cure varieties are best flue-cured, but can be sun-cured on the stalk. Maryland varieties are usually stalk-cut and air-cured on the stalk in a curing shed.

How long ago did you top the flower heads?

I've been taking them off for about 3 months now and they are still coming. The plants are in buckets and I've read they mature differently.
