Hey everybody new here hoping for some advice I tried to make a batch of snus at home and I think I failed turning sodium bicarbonate into sodium carbonate so I potentially added 4 g of sodium bicarbonate to the snus. I found a good source of sodium carbonate and added that but wondering if this batch is completely ruined.

How much tobacco is there in the batch?

It might have a gritty feel in the mouth, but it should be fine.
I use 8.5 grams of sodium carbonate per 100 grams of tobacco with no problem.
I figure I might add well try it. Crazy thing is that I've never tried snus before so hard to tell what it should be like! I went and grabbed a can of Odin original to see the mouth feel. Heavy on the bergamot but I will at least have something to compare against to make sure I don't dissolve my teeth off

Question for you... After adding the carbonate how long do you leave it open?

I'm airing it out in my basement currently with a paper towel over it. From what I understand I should keep doing this for three days total

3 days with a paper towel rubber banded around the mouth of the jar is what I do.
Then they go in the refrigerator for as long as I can wait (a week or so). If I have enough in the fridge- the batch gets vacuum packed and put in the freezer.

I started the paper towel 3-day thing after making a batch, and closing it up in a jar and putting it in the fridge, directly. 3 days later, I opened the jar and got hit by a massive cloud of ammonia. Had to spread out the batch on a plate to air it out.

Amazing. Thank you for confirming, I was worried I was doing the wrong thing!
