I guess my interest is mainly in the how. I understand there are endless recipes for whole leaf pipe blends and etc. That wasn't the question really. I am more interested in the how, maybe.
I understand that pipes can be fashioned out of many different things. One thing I guess I never understood was how to make the stem and how to keep it clean without readily available pipe cleaners?
Also, has anyone here ever tried alkalizing their smokeless with wood ash successfully making a usable product? Yeah, I smoke an occasional pipe bowl of tobacco and roll some cigars now n then, but my main use is smokeless. I also find the corn husk rolling paper for cigarettes interesting.

Have you posted the process of extraction from the birch ash and the use in your recipe anywhere? It would be most useful probably if some type of conversion between using said extraction vs using the sodium carbonate. Is it an equivalent measurement (1:1) or twice or half as much as the sodium carbonate etc?

My thought on pipes is that they're great but how do you clean pipes without a pipe cleaner?
pipe is very easy to clean, especially the glass pipe. The simplest and cheapest way, imo, is Epsom salt and 91% isopropyl alcohol. Get a Ziplock bag, put the salt and alcohol in it with the pipe, close the bag, shake it around a lot then rinse.
