Bought a ulu off ebay to use as a chavet but found the handle too tall, so I cut it off with a hack saw and ground it to shape. A lot more comfortable to work with now. Before and after pics.

A section of Tygon tubing, split along one side lengthwise, will slip onto the back edge nicely, and allow you to exert more downward pressure comfortably.

A trip to the hardware store may be in order

Since all Tygon tubing is somewhat curved, be sure to split the tubing on the outside of the curve, so it will more easily conform to the concavity of the back of the blade.
