Unusual flower mutation pics

so while I was tending to my N. quadrivalvis the other day, I stumbled upon this double flower. What's really neat to me is that both halves are also 4 lobed, instead of 5.

i'll try to remember to keep an eye out for the capsules as they develop.

I had to do a double take.

It would be interesting to count how many seeds will be in this pod!?

Mine flowers was covered with Agribon and I didn't check if there was any. LL.
I only find double leaves. But this is really interesting.

I've only been growing things for a couple of years, I wish that had started at a younger age. What outwardly looks to be a patch of carbon copies, has some interesting details. Good pictures!

I wander if it has something to do with our input on the eco system? I have not seen things like that in the past. Almost never. Been seeing alot of that type of thing, along with leaf as well this year in posts and blogs. They look neat but why? Hum?

Those kinds of abnormalities happen all the time, in tobacco, in piglets, in humans. There are just more cameras these days.

so as promised (although super late), here are a couple pics of the capsule that resulted from the double 4-point quadrivalvis flower:



the area of the split must have been very early in the formation of the flower because it basically produced two complete capsules that were only joined somehow below the base of the capsules.

Mammals do pretty much the same thing, with nearly any portion of the anatomy partially duplicated in some freaky way. The true wonder is that any tissue and organ systems ever develop normally.

this has to be the strangest mutant flower I have ever encountered, beating out even the split flowers of some of the more difficult male sterile types (i'll try to remember to dig up a picture of them to post). when I split it open there were no reproductive organs at all- no stigma, no anthers.

Someone I live with goes nuts with roundup,
I notice many times that stuff that gets some overspray and lives will be more prone to mutations
Double flowers, and half leaf / half sepal seem most common

Did you have soil donated from Chernobyl?

Nice observation Jessica, especially considering how many plants and flowers you keep up with.

You can count the stamens, then divide by 5 to determine how many blossoms are merged in that one.
