It's a steal. I recall that the main issue that members have had with the Tech-1 is maintaining or replacing the 3 blades on the crank wheel. The rest of the contraption is factory-sturdy. The width of its shred is determined by the built-in ratio of the gears between the crank shaft and the feed wheel. I daresay that, when in tip-top shape, the Tech-1 outlasts contemporary, electric shredders. But you have to work for it.

Any details on where one might get a replacement worm and drive gear? I bought one a while back just for kicks but the worm and drive gear are worn out and no longer work. Id like to get it repaired in the future if possible, I am a trained welder as well so not adverse to fitting purchased parts on my own, albeit I have never welded cast iron.

You could try a tech school that has a machine shop class. Sometimes they just charge enough to cover materials to give the students something to do.
