Good morning from Athens-Greece.

The "Zatrikion" (1600 BC) was one of the most popular pastimes of the Greek royal families, who used it to teach their children that the king was powerless without his people. Like chess today, it had 64 positions, each corresponding to a separate region of the kingdom. Of course, the king should under no circumstances lose a single district of his kingdom, for then he would be left alone and desolate, without arable land and nationals.
The ancient Greek Zatrikion was later renamed Byzantine Chess (it was circular in shape), a copy of it is also housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

I am smoking Cornell & Diehl Small Batch Folklore, single espresso plus cool water beside me.

Irish cake! I am working on a blend in the vein of Irish Flake. Equal parts red VA, dark air cured, and light fire cured. Using ready rubbed tobaccos (pressed, cut, and rubbed out) mixed and pressed into a cake. Only a few puffs from a test bowl and this blend has been given the green light!

A friend sent me some tobacco from this tin to try. I’m smoking it in a Savinelli 315KS. I know nothing about it. He was able to determine it was made from 1959 to 1982 by the US Tobacco Company. This tin looks late 60’s to 70’s production to me. IMG_7407.jpegIMG_7408.jpeg

Enjoying a corn cob of 3 year stalk aged Virginia. Just straight with 0 added. Unbelievable how sweet it is. Of course it has a bit of bite to it but otherwise very good. I pressed it and it really has brought out a nice flavour profile.

It's supposed to be daylight now. Rain pours down from a darkened sky. I sit in my study, at my 2011 vintage laptop computer, smoking a small bowl of the now extinct, McClelland No. 8 Oriental, in a Stanwell Lovat. The rare tobacco was a gift from last Christmas. I've rationed it.

There is a chance of the rain changing to snow later today, as the temperature drops.

As the sun decided to come out today, I decided to slip outside while the babies nap. This was a special experience, not only the christening of my MO meerschaum Honeypot, but the first bowl I have tasted of my KY17 Burley I grew this year. Nice to relax even if it's a short time.

Here is a trick from the Cafe owner (a member of the Resistance team) to bypass the restrictions that those damned ''Hygienists" force the government to apply. There is a gap so the external space of the Cafe is considered now as ''open'' and naturally ventilated so people can smoke in it.

Nice when someone tries to make it so you CAN smoke a pipe. In most cases they seem to go out of their way to ensure that you can't, or if you are able to it's as far away, as inconvenient, and as uncomfortable as possible.

We just got off of a cruise ship. On a vessel 1100+ feet long and with a 200+ foot beam, there were three tiny smoking areas available. Of the three, only one was sheltered from the wind enough that I stood a chance of getting a pipe lit. Smoking cigarettes is bad enough, but smoking a pipe anywhere other than your own front porch these days is sailing into a significant headwind.
