Hello I have been told 10% food grade glycerine and the remainder boiled cooled water in spray mist bottlr is to be sprayed on shredded tobacco to stop it turning into saw dust.

I have a couple of lb of tobacco leaf sealed and I am wondering if its better to shred it all and put it into a container to stop the leaf going mouldy or do I unseal the tobacco leaf as it was sent to me and spray it..

I look forward to hearing any advice

Thanks

Yes, you can do it all at once. But, I do it in stages.

It comes a little moist so, Because I roll cigar size, flattened leaves to slice it into shreds, I'll take the pound and, if it's not moist enough not to bend the center stems instead of snap them, I will separate the leaves, put them in a large container, and spray them with distilled water, rotating and repeating until the center stems bend instead of snap.

De-stem all or some, roll all or some, put what I'm not shredding right away, back into to the bag it came in, remove the air and close it tightly.

Those bags they come in are mostly more air tight then anything else.

Take the shred, and put about 2 packs worth in a small plastic container for rolling out of and the rest, I'll keep in a mason jar.
This is about 5 or 7 robusto size rolls. About a quarter pound or so.

This is to moist to smoke so, I'll air it out some while I'm rolling.

I have had no problems with mold but, it's all kept below 75 degrees or so. ... I think it would if there was more air and 85 degrees and more.

i keep mine in opened 1 gallon mason jars.. near a window,, [ when it rains it rehydrates ] and i have no issues with it being too dry or too wet.. i also keep 3 moisture absorbing things in each jar.. 1 on the bottom 1 in the middle 1 on top [ those packets you see. in a pack of beef jerky.. e.t.c.]

but im sure some rice, wrapped in some paper towel would do the same thing.

That makes sense to me for one main reason. The leaf when freshly cured continues to release ammonia smell. I notice it most in shredded trying to keep in a usable case for smoking upon demand . But only noticable if sealed or enclosed. I took a hint from Bigbonner and store a lot of leaf in cardboard boxs if not left hanging in my shed. Some cigar varietys in vaporproof bags on wrappers and binders.

I use cardboard boxes and brown paper bags. in Kalifornia. far too dry.
Always breaks and crumbles when I get some out to put in a 1 gal jar with a veggie wrapped in tissue.
couple days and it's ok to process.

or I just rinse it off in the sink and toss it in a bread bag, process the next morning.
Yah, I'm a hack.

This doesn't really answer my question; I have large bags of leaves. I have most in a plastic container w/ cover-I keep them in the plastic they come with; However, is this ok?
I have a large humidor. I wonder if it would be ok to store it all in there without any humidification?

Whole leaves should be kept dry, don't need any humidification. Rehydrate them prior to shredding. Store them in the plastic bag they came in, sealed. Shredded tobacco will be fine kept in sealed jars and will maintain the case it was in when shredded.

if you got your tobacco from http://www.wholeleaftobacco.com/ it comes in a good case and is ready to shred and smoke. the bags work so well i have tobacco that was a year old at christmas and still is good when you open a bag a year and a half latter. i store my home grown tobacco where i hang it to cure. i hang it outside on a damp day or mist it then shred it as i need it making enough for a few weeks. i store my shredded tobacco in an air tight container until it is used up and never had a problem.
