Knuck, No I don't have a shredder yet. I think I will use scissors to start. I need a lot of things but will start off redneck and buy as I go.

Best hand method I have tried is to bunch a group of leaves tightly in a "cigar shape"then wrap tightly with a single leaf. With a sharp knife slice as thinly as possible crosswise.....resulting in "pucks". Put these in a Ziploc and shake until pucks unravel and become fluffy shredded tobacco.

Welcome to the best tobacco site there is, as far as processing leaf I have been rolling the leaves into sausages and thinly slicing on an angle with an electric knife soon Don is coming out with an affordable shredder

I've been using one of these bypass pruners lately. They will cut through more at once than my knife would.

Thanks guys, all sound like good ideas. Aaron, I have a pair of those I use them for cutting okra. I will have to try all of the listed ideas and see what works best for me. But first I have to get my order. Seems like a long time, shipped on the 13th and no UPS yet. I'm going through withdrawal and I have not even smoked any yet, lol

It's well worth the wait. I've been smoking nothing but whole leaf for the last year and I will never go back to store bought. You're gonna love it!

I got my sample pack yesterday and the Virginia is kick butt! I tried several and now I am ready to blend some. I am so glad I ordered the sample pack as I now know that the Virginia bright is what I like best. This is what I will grow the most of next spring. I do have a question, if the moisture of the leaf is high will that make for a harsher smoke? For ciggs do you need to let leaf dry more and be not so plyable?

I'm not a cig smoker but I smoke my cigars from very damp to very dry. The only thing is seems to change is the burning characteristic. I would think with cigs that effect would be less noticeable. The tobacco my buddy and I blend varies in case quite al lot and he never comments on it so I don't think it is a big factor.

Typically, the moister the tobacco, the smoother it will smoke. Obviously, if it's too moist, it won't smoke at all. The other problem with tobacco being too moist is it will get hot as you smoke it. Dry tobacco can be "harsh".
