Whole Leaf Tobacco Threshed Blends assistance

Doug, Welcome to the forum. It appears as if you have all of the tobaccos except for the Toasted Burley. Become a regular contributing member and your efforts will someday likely be rewarded.

All of the kits have been sent out today. Your kit includes a prepaid small flat rate box so you can return samples of your blends. Please only work on this project when you have time to do a thorough job at keeping precise record of what goes into your blend. The idea here is to be able to recreate these blends in large quantities.
There are 170 sprays in one bottle of casing, so if you simply count the number of sprays and record the quantity of tobacco it is applied to, I'll be able to calculate the quantity for a larger amount. The Burley is in perfect order for shredding and since it is highly absorbent, you should be able to case it directly after shredding. The Flue Cured is dry because FC is known for not being absorbent, it should suck up the casing easily.
The samples you return should be an ounce or a less...all I need is enough to make 5 - 10 cigarettes.
Record keeping is key. Record the weight of each type of tobacco you use for each blend. If you don't like a particular blend, start over. Articulate record keeping is the most important thing in this exercise.
Oh, BTW...I'm an idiot and forgot to put the casings in the kits, so expect two packages on Monday or Tuesday from the Post Office.

It depends on how bad your tap water is. If you have well water that tastes like sulfur, then please use bottled water. If you have sweet water, no need for bottled water.
The trick to using tap water is to let it run so you're using fresh water.

Would the goal here be "simple and satisfying"? So that the blend appeals to the largest customer base with a minimum of effort? Or to the connoisseur type that wants to buy in bulk?
Moved up my shred date to this weekend to clear out next weekend for the incoming shipment...this should be fun...looking forward to the collaborative results discussion....good november project...may also result in a new personal flavour...thanks again don
No, the Flue Cured whole leaf types I offer on the site are different than the threshed. The TN 90 Burley I currently offer on the site is not the same as the threshed Burley
The "minimal effort" part will be in using the threshed tobacco. A blend that replicates any major selling commercial brand is no easy task. Your blends should be the best cigarette you've ever smoked.
Your blends should not include tobacco that has undergone any complicated alteration. The goal is to use the tobacco the way you receive it and create different blends. With the addition of the casing, the number of potential blends is endless.

Is open discussion of our blends welcome during this process, or should we keep them private until submitted, like was done for the whole leaf blends trial?
Even though my competition closely monitors the forum, they don't know what the casing recipes are, nor do they know what grade threshed tobaccos I'm offering, so I think we're safe talking about the process of developing blends here.
I was afraid it was different, whence the reason I was sorry I missed out. Not sure how it would translate to the threshed variety. I'll be happy to pass along my blend to the forum. In the blend thread perhaps? It really is that good. The first comment from all the precon smokers is just how smooth it is. Then they prefer the flavor.

Thank you, Don. I received mine today. I hope everyone can distinguish between fire cured, flue cured and burley since the bags are not marked. Thank you for the goodies also that came with it. I am going to pick up some regular tubes also since I am a menthol smoker and do it both ways.
I guess I will do this at work, so I don't drink and blend at the same time and get confused.
I have not taken it out of the bags yet but the threshed looks pretty stem free. Straight into the shredder?

After all these years of experience, I certainly hope the different types can be identified.
You might have to go through it a little. It appears to have much less foreign debris than the Flue Cured, but since the threshing process is completely mechanized, you should still go through it a bit.Brown Thumb said:

My package arrived, too! That was fast, Don, you have a good post office there in Ohio. The first thing I did was shred some of that 8 year old Burley. I smoked a puro uncased and it is amazing! Never tasted Burley like that. Extremely smooth and sweet (sweet Burley? Whoever heard of such a thing). Tastes like milk chocolate. You got a winner there, Don!
No, just regular Priority. Priority is 1 to 3 days anywhere in the US including Hawaii and Alaska. I'm sure you'll get your tomorrow.
