I have been "blending" my own for over a year now. At first I grabbed the "Balkan Mixture" from WholeLeafTobacco.com and would add my own condiments to it as I desired - playing around with different stuff. I recently grabbed my own selection of individual tobaccos with approximate equal parts: american flue curred virginia, canadian flue curred virginia, fire curred virginia, and samsun oriental.

I also grabbed some WIld Rustica. I can't place my finger on it. The internet does not have much to offer regarding this leaf and it's characteristics or recommendations on blending. I'm currently equating it to an earthier burley, but with a deeper profile and a taste closer to... well, IDK yet.

Does anyone use this leaf in their own blends? If so, how much? What have you discovered about it? Can you describe the taste/flavor and burning characteristics?

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum. You may wish to scan through the topics in our Index of Key Forum Threads, linked in the menu bar.

Nicotiana rustica is a domesticated tobacco that native people intentionally propagated throughout Central America and Mexico, and across parts of the mid-west and the eastern half of the US, prior to the arrival of Europeans. Currently there are scores of distinct varieties of N. rustica. It would be anybody's guess what "wild rustica" might actually be. Other forum members may be able to help with blending it.
