It's time for me to re-infest you guys with a new Blog.

I started some seeds on coffee filters this morning. I plan on growing One Sucker and Yellow Pryor this Spring, 25 of each. I used this method last fall with good success, you just have to be sure to transfer the seeds before the root gets too long. They are easy to pick up with a toothpick just after they pop and transplant into the cells.

It's day 4 from starting seeds, there were enough of them that germinated to go ahead and transplant to the tray. I made a small divot in each cell, picked up the seeds with a toothpick and placed them in the cells, then lightly misted to settle everything. Should know in a few days how successful I was. I put 2-3 seeds in some of the cells for backups.

It occurred to me that these empty containers that I've been throwing away would be good for storing tobacco flour. Each one holds about 835 grams of flour. It's much easier to deal with than zip lock bags.
My seedlings are coming along okay.

Started some Vuelta Abajo seeds this morning on a coffee filter. My plan is to use it as a minor blending component in snus. Also, I may try my hand at making some cheroots if it turns out okay.

One Sucker and Yellow Pryor seedlings at about two and a half weeks.

This is a good space-saver idea especially with the easy-grip handle on the back. Uline has cases of 36 (48oz) for $72 so they should be available elsewhere for less.

Bought some mulch this morning. I'll begin prepping my containers in the next few days.

My seedlings are growing like crazy, I'll trim them soon. I should be able to transplant the first week of February if the ten-day forecast is favorable.

The tray in the cabinet contains sprouts of Vuelta Abajo and Java Besuki. I plan on planting about 12 of each.

The large seedlings of One Sucker and Yellow Pryor will be transplanted in the next few weeks. Right now, the forecast calls for temps in the low eighties during the day and low sixties during the night in early February. The high today is supposed to be near 60 degrees, low about 45 tonight.

I set up 2 rows of containers this morning for the OS and YP. Still need to set up one more row for the cigar varieties.

While searching for good pictures of Vuelta Abajo, I found this one posted by ciennepi in 2020. It also features Yellow Pryor, which I'm growing this Spring. Both of these are new to me.

I might plant the One Sucker and Yellow Pryor seedlings out tomorrow, the 2-week forecast looks favorable and will put me past the last frost date for this area. It's still possible to get a late freeze, but not very likely. We had a little bit of soft slushy frost this morning, but we'll be in a warming trend for the next two weeks.

2 weeks from transplant for One Sucker and Yellow Pryor.

The weather here has been sunny and warm with daytime highs in the mid-eighties and nights in the sixties.
