The Crockpot in my kiln died last night (half-way through a 2 month run). I think it was 4 years old, but I can't remember. So I just ordered another 6 quart Crockpot from Amazon for $33, with free shipping. It was a good time to remember that a Crockpot with a manual switch can be easily controlled with a digital controller. If the switch on the slow cooker is digital, chances are that whenever the external digital controller switches off the power, the slow cooker power will remain off, until you physically turn it back on with its digital switch. Manual is good.

Now I have a 6 quart, oval crock that is well encrusted with mineral deposits. Seems a shame to just toss it.

I do appreciate the suggestions. Perfectly solid, though encrusted piece of crockery. But my house is an embarrassment of stuff kept for possible later use. Most of it is books, which can fairly pretend to be worth hanging on to. But then there are the wonderful, spectacularly sturdy and reusable clear PET containers. And the handy, odd scraps of wood. And my collection of dead fruit tree branch nodes, awaiting transformation into tobacco pipe bowls. Fabric scraps (i.e. worn out clothes).

I just drove to the dump today, and the Crockpot went along for the ride.

Look what I just discovered beneath the dim yellow light on my porch.

It wasn't due to arrive for another week. I'll wait for the ice storm to pass, then crank up the kiln again.

Before my latest ice storm arrived, I decided, after about 4 years of parking my car in the same spot, regardless of the weather, that I would instead move it to a spot just in front of my porch.

That branch looks like it's about 150 pounds, and would have hit square in the center of my sunroof.

Here is tonight's tracking on the Crockpot that already arrived last night.

I'm curious to see if they ever notice that the party is over. The item has already been delivered.

Is this when better late then never is applied? I believe you would use the notes from the USwhogivesaPS shipper the seller uses to get it to you?

We had an earlier ice storm last weekend. I spent a fair bit of attention watching the tree-branch-sag-ometer, as it drooped down to my car roof. I decided, for this second storm, that it was too stressful to watch, so I moved the car to the spot with the fewest number of things that could fall on it. Whew!

The ice storm ended at mid-morning today. Then, at about 5:30 pm, that branch snapped off. (I should have purchased a name-brand tree.)
