No more cutting cans! Here's how.....
I line the can with glossy cardstock (available free at trade shows) then insert removable sections behind the liner. Im using plant tags as I have a lifetime supply. After Ill put the parchment liner, tobacco, etc....
After pressing the plant tags are removed and the plug slides right out. Excessive moisture and pressure make for a difficult removal, not to mention a sticky mess. Ill post pics of that process when the next batch comes out.
Regarding excess.....
Too much moisture on the lower plugs, which were cigar leaf and dark air, and too much pressure. The bottom 4 are just a sticky mess of tobaccco innards and some juice invaded the cakes in the middle. Should be interesting in a few months.
BTW- I put my labels on as Im loading the can and a layer of parchment goes over the label.

This thread made me realize that I might be able to use my wine press for pressing tobacco. Obviously, I wouldn't be using the presser foot and strainer basket, and will need to rig something else up. However, at this time I'm using my wine press to crush honeycomb that I robbed from my bees last weekend. It'll take me another week to finish this chore. I ought to get 2 gallons honey when I'm done. Who wants diabetes?
I also have a manual hydraulic log splitter that I might be able to rig up for pressing tobacco. It might be overkill. 1 ton per sq inch?

Absolutely, use what you have on hand and experiment.
Shop Fox has a new press for like $20 and I was thinking of making a hardwood frame and adding a scale to the bottom.
