The Pa Red Stalk cured in the garage turned out awesome, no mold either.:D
Nice Mahogany color.

A bunch have flower heads popping out. They just don't give up. Gonna bag them this weekend and fire up the chamber for some kilning.

Picked some Harrow velvet suckers today and hung them in the smoker at 115 degrees this morning.
They are browning up all ready.

Well they are looking pretty good. The camera flash makes them look green a little. But they are brown and darkening up Slowly. I Found a bag of mesquite chips buried in the garage so I am off and running again. It's been raining so I can't chip any wood in the wood chipper. I could but I just don't want to get wet.

Looking good. I was worried about starting with green leaf. What I smoked last year was already color cured so no worry about drying too fast.

The first leaf pics look greener than what they are.
I posted A link i use on the other Fred is Flue cured thread.
It is somewhat like Flue Curing. Moisture and Heat.
I Kept my water pan full and kept her under 125.
Seems a lot easier than Flue Curing.

It's been a bummer day, cleaning house of my mistakes. I have never lost so much leaf. But it comes with the learning curve I guess.
Chipped the moldy stalk cured and unstrung the chamber load of flue cured that got steamed to death.
It has been a good year tho.
I got perique made out of perique in the bucket fermenting.
The chamber gives me real flue cured leaf for the most part.
I did get a nice load of Pa Red.
A Bucket of steamed leaf that got put in with the shredded stalks and stalk cured.

Bet that makes good smoke. I need a chipper.
Well it was looking good. So I busted a half a leaf off and put it in my bowl.
God dang. It was the.





Worst tasting chit I ever smoked.
Still Gagging.

Well this was a big boner I pulled last night.
i was tired of tripping over a box of stalk harvested PA Red leaf in my basement.
I put it outside Saturday on the firewood pile under the porch while it was raining trying to get it into higher case.
Sunday it was blown all over the yard. So I spent a hr. finding as much as I could.
It was in very low case. So I got the idea and put my wife's New Crockpot I bought her to replace the one I broke in the kiln. I put it in the small chest freezer that is holding all my Dark air dried Baccy. Wrong Idea.
I ended up with Pa Red Cavendish, Oops but it smells Awesome.
I chit my pants almost this morning when I found it and took it out. Now half the leaf is in high case and half in low case.
I am going to put into a garbage bag and hope it comes into med case without mold.
Last pic is what it looked like when I put it in. I still have a little left yet that dident fit in the freezer.
