Hey Guys,

just wanted some kind of reassurance: Made my first batch of homemade snus couple of hours ago using a pressure cooker. I read that the reaction of the tobacco with sodium carbonate is releasing ammonia, but I'm kinda irritated by it.
I do have a sensitive nose but do ammonia fumes usually burn in your nose? I don't have any reference point so I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum. I believe that homemade snus is usually allowed to age for several weeks, prior to use. Read the Smokeless section of the Wholeleaftobacco Wiki, linked in the menu bar. It contains a number of recipes. Perhaps some of the forum's snus makers can give more specific advice.

Thank you for your quick answer! I'm aware that snus has to age, my question is rather that if its normal that ammonia burns in one's nose or that there might something off with my tobacco

Greetings
