Summer 2023 I tried to grow tobacco but it went straight to hell. Frost and wind destroyed all my plants.

Now I will try again. I have property that has small cottage that is going to be destroyed. Since I am not going to start house building project this year I try to grow something.

I planted 18 virginia, 12 tofta, 6 harrow velvet, 6 cherry red 3 pumpkins and one watermelon.

There is also bird (Goldeneye) living in that property.

What other warieties would be suitable for northern climate?
My impression is that days to maturity are more significant than locally adapted varieties. Most tobacco varieties will survive fairly well in relatively cold days after transplant to the ground. Their subsequent growth is dependent on a warmer temperature and sufficient sunlight. Havana varieties have grown well on the slopes of Machu Picchu. Latitude is not directly a factor, in the context of warming ocean currents and typical, regional weather patterns.

I looked at tillbudet.se and the fastest maturing varieties are these.

Although Northwood Seeds (in Washington State, USA) lists hundreds of varieties, making it a bit tedious to look through many of them, most individual listings indicate days to maturity.

I live in EU and ordering seeds outside EU is almost impossible. I need some sort of certificate of the seeds and it costs aprox 200US dollars. So I better order somewhere inside EU.

I live in Germany, and order from
All the time, with no problems or certificates.
You email him with your order, he responds with a PayPal invoice, you pay it, and you’ll have your seeds in about 10-14 days.
They usually sprout for me in about 5-6 days.

First the Package goes through customs and because it`s outside EU and has seeds Finnish good authority inspects the package that comes outside EU and the inspection costs money.
Ordering seed from other EU country is easy and no inspections needed.
