What about product already in transit before the law changed? If you have product in transit before the law changed, and you do not have a permit then contact New Zealand Customs on 0800 428 786.

Stic,
when did you order? Wanting to know the fastest way to get it from A-B now :)
I have stuff coming from WLT via myus, leafonly and totalleafsupply shipping direct using USPS. I wouldn’t be surprised if the WLT order arrives first. Sure the myus is a pain but you can set your preferences to automatic forwarding using original packaging. My only concern is whether sufficient Tarif codes etc are Included For sailing through customs at this end

I am getting so frustrated. I got a "myus" address and they advised me they dont ship whole leaf tobacco, but I see here they do. Also found attached new imports rules, that I cant really understand. ( A bit thick sometimes but i'm not blonde just old, that's my excuse) Can someone read it and let me know in simple language and let me know how to get our orders here from Don.
The FAQ doc you attached explains the new rules from July 1st this year, essentially ending the tax free importing of whole leaf tobacco. Up until then nothing has changed with purchasing from don, apart from needing to use a freight forwarding company (eg myus, but there are others) for shipping instead of USPS.

The attachment refers to what the process for importing tobacco will be when the new legislation comes into force in July 2020, and is just a FYI. It doesn't relate to any importation before that legislation change.

It basically outlines that post July 2020, you will not be able to import tobacco (with a couple of exceptions like cigars) unless you become a registered, commercial Tobacco importer.

Can we buy chewing tobacco in unmanufactured leaf and labelled as chewing tobacco and is it a different type of leaf ? Apparently we can import chewing tobacco without a permit.

This is true, however I’m pretty sure chewing tobacco is taxed at the same rate as cigarettes so there wouldn't be the same financial advantage. I’m really intrigued to see how whole leaf is taxed, and I wonder that if under the new permit scheme one can proove they are using tobacco Leaf for Insecticide etc whether their imports may remain duty tax exempt. Probably not, but it’s a nice thought

Are cigars exempted or treated differently? How about some nice all flue cured Virginia cigars ready for shredding?

Left WLT on 27th May. Still waiting for it to be registered to my myus account.
They said they cant ship unprocessed tobacco leaf, I ordered and sent to myus anyway. Have you had it sent to you from them before?

I just learned that my freight forwarding company will ship 50 lb. boxes as a single order. Previously, it was 150 lb. minimum to qualify as "freight'.
All orders must be accompanied by USDA Phytosanitary certificate which is $110. Door to port service is available. From what I can tell, the shipping costs are close to shipping with USPS.

If you want to order 50 lbs. or more, send me an email with your order and your shipping address and I'll send you a quote. The quote does not include any tax, duty, customs clearance, import broker fees or final destination costs.

Wholesale orders are being received in as little as 7 days.

Before this I have never used myus. I can’t see why they would have a problem shipping it though

Does it need to be heat treated?
