Shade Wrapper Tobaccos

Hi,

i transplanted my seedlings outside today.
In the night it is not colder than 55°
When should i start to shade my wrapper-tobaccos?
Immediately?
For wrappers i grow two varieties, connecticut shade and sumatra wrapper tobacco!

I did the shade before planting the tobacco (so I had time), but it's not a problem even now, I would still spread the cloth at the first opportunity.

Connecticut Shade Leaf is put under 40% shade cloth soon after transplant.

My commercial CT shade friend told me a couple of days ago he has 800,000 seedlings in the green houses now. They will be going in the ground around the 26th.

I have never grown tobacco in intentional shade. I have grown CT Shade and a number of different Indonesian wrapper varieties in full sun. The Indonesian varieties produce excellent wrappers in full sun. My CT Shade grown in full sun was not particularly suitable for wrappers, and was not the same flavor/aroma as when grown in shade. As a side note, Florida Sumatra is excellent when sun-grown.

If you plant to grow CT Shade under shade cloth, you will need to anticipate 3-meter tall plants, with a wire support for each plant.
