I'll prime some leaf from all plants today. The first priming colored up after 3-5 days in a covered pile.

It's been almost 4 weeks from topping One-Sucker. I've primed them twice and they're about ready to prime again. The cigar varieties are ready to prime also.

I plan on stalk harvesting all of my plants next Wednesday. That will be five weeks from topping One-Sucker and three weeks or so for the cigar varieties. The RH has been quite low lately, but it's forecast to be higher next week. One-Sucker is pretty ripe and should have no problems coloring. I think I'll forego a sucker crop this season and start planning for a fall crop. I'll probably just grow 50 plants of a single dark variety. Subject to change though.

I stalk harvested the cigar varieties 2 days ago and had planned on harvesting the One-Sucker today. The RH is only forecast to be 42% today and not much higher for several more days, so I'm going to wait for the plants to ripen more. My mutts foraging for bugs and worms.

I'm a little worried about how the Vuelta Abajo is coloring, the leaves wilted down quickly and look bruised and blackened in a lot of spots. We'll see how it turns out.

I stalk harvested all of my One-Sucker this morning. It's ripe enough that it should color easily.

The close-up pic shows the Vuelta Abajo; it's not coloring well at all. I can tell it's going to dry hard and green. I might be able to make some chimo from it, but I'll more than likely just discard it. I had eleven of those.

The Java Besuki is coloring normally.

Will you kiln your cigar varieties? I had Piloto color like your Veulta, but once it was kilned it looked and tasted just fine.
Yes. I don't have a kiln, so I've been attic kilning my tobacco for the last few seasons. I monitored the attic temps last summer and it usually tops out at about 125 degrees or so, I've never had it get above 130. It's not perfect, but it works well enough for me. In fact, I think I borrowed this idea from you if I'm not mistaken.

I borrowed the idea from @GreenDragon

I would say don't give up on the Vuelta Abajo until it comes out of the kiln green.

It's been five days from harvest for One-Sucker, it's colored up pretty well. I'll move it to the garage for drying in the next day or so. The Besuki was moved to the garage this morning. I plan on leaving the Vuelta Abajo on the Lanai for a while to see if it will soften up enough to handle without shattering.

It's been a week from harvesting One-Sucker. I moved them from the lanai to the garage for drying this morning. All the plants closest to the wall are OS, the others are mostly Besuki. I'm leaving the Vuelta on the lanai for now in the hope that they will soften up and change color. The brown ones are the first priming. Evidently, I should have waited another week or so before stalk harvesting. Or better yet I should have primed them and yellowed in a box.

It's incredible. Here I see how you harvest and cure your tobacco, and I have to wait another 2-4 weeks before I can plant my plants out :)

I got stung by a honeybee on my left palm while mowing my lawn today. Comparison photos of a normal ugly hand and swollen ugly hand. It hurt like a bitch!
The leaf on the lanai is the Vuelta Abajo that dried kind of greenish, it has gradually changed color. Looks like it might turn out okay.
The leaf in the garage is almost completely dry. I'll bring it into case pretty soon and tie it into hands for aging.

I'll start some seeds sometime in July for a fall crop.

I’ve heard that tobacco can be used to alleviate the sting and swelling from a bee sting…don’t know if there’s any truth in it but worth a try next time

Man, that's a lot of swelling for a bee sting. Do you always react that way? Some people develop allergies latter in life or after multiple exposures to things that they weren't allergic to before (bees, poison ivy, fire ants, inlaws...) It may not hurt to check with the local quack and see if maybe having an epi pen on hand or at the very least a strong antihistamine isn't a bad idea - especially if you noticed any tightness in the throat or trouble breathing last time.

I have been a beekeeper for 15+ years. I am not a doctor. After a long winter, the first few stings of the year cause comical **localized** swelling. By the end of fall little to no swelling at all. This is normal. Some people get a few freebies where swelling is minimal, but it's dependent on location.

Concern takes place when the swelling or reactions takes places in areas not directly local to the sting. Example, You get stung in the foot and you quickly develop hives on your legs and back... Or worse your throat starts to itch and swell. Anaphylactic reaction is very serious and immediate.

Final note of interest... Yellow jackets and Honey bees have different venom. You can have an anaphylactic reaction to one, but not the other!
