I have a friend that wants to roll their own cigarettes but doesn't want to go through lots of work to get something decent. He wants to start with something simple (no casing or flavoring or glycerin added etc.. ) Just shred and mix leaves to create a decent blend. What would be a good start, I'm thinking maybe a three or max 4 different types of leaf so he can adjust some flavor and strength. He smokes various brands , Marlboro, Newport, and Camel but he is open to anything at this point.
I smoked Marlboro, Camel, and Pall Mall chemical sticks before I started growing my own so my blend needed to start in that neighborhood, but then decided that the absence of flavorings needed to be counterbalanced with some flavorful natural tobacco. My blend Is measured by volume, not weight. I stood a 10cm ruler up in a square plastic tub and marked off 4cm for virginia so that equals 40%. 2cm for burley equaled 20%, etc. To get some smooth flavor I added Maryland to the standard virginia, burley, oriental, and then for a hint of strong flavor and a little extra nic hit I added dark air which is usually for chew. It has a smorgasbord of flavors, more kick than a Marlboro, and as an added bonus, rather than be limited by just the usual throat and tongue hit, this one adds a nice kick in the balls hit. He‘ll love it.
40% flue cure (I sun my flue cure varieties - very nice)
20% burley
20% Maryland
10% dark air (it doesn’t overpower, mostly adds flavor)
10% oriental
