Got some Greve Hamiltons blandning and General Mackmyra while waiting for the leaves to cure. I really like the straight Missouri meerschaum corn cob pipes, they are excellent!

I am thinking about to get another tent with a humidifier with a hygrostat just to cure in but that will have to wait for next harvest.

I bought a small inline fan today and tested it with different setups.
With the tent closed it became way too foggy in there but with the zipper half way up it looks nice and foggy.

I don't have a thermometer/hygrometer yet but it looks so cool so I hope the plants like it.

I got a hygrostat and a thermostat in the mail waiting to arrive, I thought I got a smart idea and ordered them, maybe they can be useful for curing?

I opted for the most simple and cheap fan setup I could find.
It is a 100mm (4 inch) fan duct taped to a plastic hose. It is lying on top of the tent. It is a rather weak and not too noisy fan with a capacity of 107 m³/h (63 cfm). According to my calculations it will be enough for this size tent. I used to have a much more powerful three speed fan but I don't think I need it now cause I grow without a carbon filter.
A carbon filter reduce the airflow and demand a powerful fan, when it is very humid the carbon expand and kind of clog the filter. I rather stay away from a carbon filter and get away with a weaker and less noisy fan, if I can.

The air intake through the roof of the tent.

A circulation fan is good to have in the tent.
IMG_20230209_214639_HDR.jpg
There are many ways to create air circulation within the tent. I have used computer fans and various 220 Volt fans from the hardware store.
There are also special clip-on fans called monkeyfans made for grow tents.
I got this fan from a friend so i may as well use it until it breaks.
Circulation fans break a lot or start to make noise.

Now the only thing missing in the tent is a thermometer & a hygrometer.

You have a nice set-up. I don't know anything about indoor growing but I am enjoying learning from your grow blog.
Thank you!
Glad the grow blog was useful ;).
It is by purpose I have tried to explain the basics so others can get what is going on without own experience of growing indoor.
Many people have been growing seedlings indoor during the spring but our experiment shows that tobacco can be easily grown indoor from seed to flower.

Now come the tricky part, to cure it.
I would like to be able to cure and grow at the same time in the tent, I think lights on 24/7 can be beneficial for curing cause the temperature and humidity stays the same during the night.

At last I wanted to show how a tent setup with fans works but the grow was such a success without noisy fans so I may continue to grow with an open tent.
Also it is nice to see the plants and the apartment gets bright with an open tent!

Ok got some new tools to play with, a thermostat and a hygrostat, a bit overkill I know, after all I have succeded with my first grow without so much as a thermometer but now I got both curing and growing to do, also I like to improve the grow and play with electronics .
Ok, this is not necessary but it is sure fun so let me present the right side of the tent:

1.Thermostat
2.Hygrostat
3.Light switch/dimmer
4.Extraction fan

Looks good! 25,2°C (77°F) and 67.3%RH.
As far as I know it will be good for both growing and curing.

The humidifier is on medium setting and the tent is closed, light is on max and all fans are running.

If I forget to fill the humidifier with water all sorts of things will happen, the fans will shut off, the heat will rise to 29,4°C (84°F) and an alarm will go off, the light will then turn on and off together with the alarm until I refill the humidifier but as long as I keep the humidifier filled up everything will roll like a clock.
The displays of the thermostat and hygrostat are super bright, running everything on 220 Volt, nice!

I consider the thermostat and hygrostat a lot overkill but it is nice that the temperature can't rise too much in case of that the extraction fan dies.
Unfortunately the hygrostat can't switch on the humidifier cause I have to push a button on the humidifier for it to start.
I bet these tools would be useful for a lot of DIY projects.
But o'boy what a nice and bright hygrometer and thermometer I have!

With the tent closed the humidity at the top of the tent stays at around 60%RH
When the tent is open the humidity in the top of the tent falls below 40%RH
It was a good move to upgrade the tent with fans and a hygrometer, good for curing in the top of the tent!

The humidifier only humidifies the lower half of the tent if the tent is open.

Now when we are getting close to one full circle, first grow to second grow it may be time to sum it up and review some of the tools used.

I will start with the basic tools..

1. The light, it is a keeper ofcourse, very good light with samsung lm301b diodes, some of the best grow LED available.

2. Water can, a true friend.

3. Pots, first pot, second pot and third pot.
They performed as expected, no surprises.

4. Soil mix. Both the soil/vermiculite/perlite mix and the 50/50 soil/LECA mix was great for tobacco.

5. Nutrients, tomato nutrients and soil pre-fertilized with chicken manure works for tobacco.

6. Moisture meter, it is very useful for me and the way I grow. It is also very cheap, $10.

With these first six tools I can do a full grow.

The next two tools may improve your grow depending on where you live and how dry the air is.

7. Humidifier, I like it a lot and it looks like the plants liked it too. It was top fill type with a large water container, very handy.

8. Plastic jerrican, very useful tool to use when filling the humidifier with water.

The next few tools are very handy to have.

9. Easy rollers, I really like them.

10. Dimmer, It is a great addition to the light.

The next tools I have not tried enough to review fully yet.

11. Grow tent, I can grow without it, actually I kind of did grow without it, I had the tent open all the way to harvest.
Good tool to keep the light and humidity where I want it.
Another reason I did choose to get a tent is cause I have a dog and sometime she plays with soil and plants.

12. Extraction fan, a must have if the tent is closed. Have not tried it a full grow but it looks like it is working allright.

13. Circulation fan, after next grow I will know better if I like it or not.

14. Thermometer/thermostat, so far I like it but a thermometer is good enough.
Very nice that my extraction fan can stop without causing the tent to overheat, a safety measure.

15. Hygrometer/Hygrostat, a cheap digital hygrometer will be good enough but I got a good deal on a hygrostat, it will be fun to try it.

16. Probably I forgot something, I will remember it another day.

I think I had some bad air circulation at the top of the tent earlier before I installed the fans.
Can someone please help me out?
I think I got some mold but I am not sure if it is mold or if it is normal?
I removed five leaves and I hope I got the ventilation issue fixed, the rest of the leaves are looking good.
Here are some pictures of the five leaves:

I don't think it is mold. I would finish the cure while keeping an eye on the changes. Once the leaf is fully yellow, you can even dial back on humidity once the chance of drying green is gone. When fully yellowed, allow the leaf to die, brown, and dry until the stems are crispy dry with no moisture. Rehydrate to handle and store in low case for aging or kilning. Leaf can end up with spots for various reasons. The stored leaf will require a bit of moisture for natural aging to occur. If it gets dry, no problem, just spritz with spray bottle to reintroduce moisture and the aging resumes.
